random musing: napoleon was pretty remarkable, but only in retrospect. history is always kinder with the passage of time, because the impact of suffering is diminished or eclipsed by present conditions, and occurences in the immediate past. nobody says that hitler made a tactical error in opening the eastern front and that otherwise the future would have been german; without fearing some kind of censure. in Austria there is a law against holocaust deniers. on the other hand though we speak of napoleon as a great leader, though in reality he was pretty much a proto- tyrant who similarly overran europe, forced tough conditions onto the annexed territories and in general plundered and pillaged. [where do you think the louvre got its stuff from?] i'm not a nazi apologist, as much as someone wanting to impose perspective.

okay i just lost my train of thought it just went down the cliff of incoherenceeeeeeeeeeeeee
